Comparative and evolutionary genomics of reproductive functions

The genomes of "higher" vertebrates contain an average of 23,000 to 25,000 genes, and the biological function is known for only a small percentage of them. An alternative to the intensive strategies for creating mutants in vivo is to rely on comparative physiology and genomic data, and more specifically on the systematic study of gene evolution, potentially explanatory of the evolution of major functions between species, and comparisons of large fragments of genomes or whole genomes. It is phylogenomics. The team is interested in the evolution of genes related to reproduction and gametogenesis as well as those related to energy metabolism. In particular, the team studies the moments of birth, death, divergence and convergence of genes related to reproduction, using a phylogenetic approach.
